March represents the beginning of spring, but for Challenge Detroit it also represented the beginning of a new relationship with my partner non-profit 826 Michigan. 826 is a writing/tutoring organization that helps bring the imaginative side out of many children ages 6-18, while also helping the children come to the realization that they’re smarter than they think.
Out of the chaos of 5 non-profit partner choices, 826 was the one I did not know much about prior to starting this project. On the other hand, I have really come to appreciate their attributes and uniqueness as an organization. Just being able to lend a hand at University Academy Elementary School, truly helped put into perspective what 826 was all about. All in all, educating the youth is what will pave the way for a successful future. They are the future and if we want to live sustainable lives in a thriving economy education is an ideal place to start.
Stay tuned as spring hits and events start piling up,
Roy Yewah
