It’s been a quick 6 months, but as I look back at my time spent in Detroit as part of this amazing fellowship, I can truly say that it has exceeded my expectations.

Challenge Detroit has taught me three key things:

1.       Don’t judge a book by its cover.

2.       Appreciate what you have in life.

3.       Be a positive leader in your own way and behave accordingly every day because you never know who is watching and there are people who look up to you.

All in all, don’t judge a book by its cover can be related to the outside world’s perception of Detroit or judging the people that you meet.  People love to talk about Detroit like they’ve been there but you’ll never be able to fully understanding the potential this city has unless you truly experience it first-hand. Not just coming through for a sports game or concert but actually living and socializing here (downtown and in the neighborhoods).  Appreciate what you have in life because there are many other people doing worse than you whether you know it or not.  Finally, every day you are being watched by someone, and it is up to you to leave a lasting impression.  So behave like a positive leader in your own way, and build your brand that will make people take notice or even follow suit (for the misguided children).

If you think you have what it takes to make an impact on one of the nation’s most infamous cities and want to find out your own 3 key lessons, than apply for Challenge Detroit and create your brand.

Stay tuned for the closing months (especially since warm weather is hopefully right around the corner),
