WHAT FELLOWS DO

LIVE. WORK. PLAY. GIVE. LEAD.

Challenge Detroit is more than just a job. Fellows advance their careers through yearlong, paid employment, give back to the community by collaborating with local nonprofits, build community and form lifelong bonds with their cohort, grow as a leader, develop skills, and connect with mentors and local leaders from various sectors and industries.

Starting the year

At the beginning of the program year, fellows participate in a robust orientation designed to set them up for a successful year. Sessions are geared toward learning about each other, about the city, its history and its neighborhoods, how we will approach our project collaborations and more!

Career Growth

Throughout the program year, Monday-Thursday Fellows work for one of our host company partners which range in industry and size—Fortune 500 companies to nonprofits, small businesses and everything in between.

About host companies

MAKING AN IMPACT

On Fridays Fellows collaborate with local nonprofits on strategic, human-centered, community-focused, intellectually-based Challenge Projects that are designed to move their missions forward.

Our work in the community

DEVELOPING AS A LEADER

In addition to the Challenge Projects, Fellows participate in training sessions, leadership development programming, and connect with alumni, mentors and leaders from various sectors and industries.

CONNECTING SOCIALLY

Fellows connect with their cohort and build friendships as they live, work, play, give and lead together in the city. Alumni have shared over and over again that the bonds they have built are lifelong and meaningful.

GRADUATING & NEXT STEPS

After the Fellowship year, Fellows have many options. Some stay at their host company, while others find a new opportunity, pivot careers, go back to school to get an advanced degree, or start their own venture. Whatever they decide to do, we know that their time as a Fellow can help them get to that next step.
