So I’m from Flint, Michigan, about 66 miles north of Detroit with very similar problems of crime, arson, murder, blight, and the list goes on and on. Since moving to Detroit I haven’t really felt like a newcomer or outsider.
Honestly, I’ve just felt like I moved to a bigger (and more widely known) version of Flint, about 5x bigger in fact. While both cities have a similar history one being the Motor City and the other Vehicle City one thing I haven’t been able to understand about Detroit is Detroiters.
With that being said I would like to present:
5 Things All Detroiters Have in Common
1. They describe where they live by cross streets (like that makes it any easier)
2. If they went to Cass Tech, Renaissance, or King high school at first they’re like

but in the end they’re like

3. Every neighborhood has a name but not everyone agrees.( ex. Cass Corridor or Midtown?) They’re reactions are

or

4.When you ask where’s a good place to eat they’re like

and finally
5. If you ask if they’re (REALLY) from Detroit or one of the suburbs

….and I’m done
