Just over a month ago I had no idea that a “hurricane without water” was coming to Detroit. I didn’t now 1 in 6 Detroiters would be affected by the tax foreclosure crisis. Meaning nearly 100,000 people are in danger of losing their homes, where they were raised, where they learned how to cook, or the place where laughter and love poured through during family functions.   1 in 6 Detroit Homes are At Risk This is happening for a plethora of reasons but I’ll pass on running through the list because at the end of the day what really matters is that young and old, black, white, purple or green everyone in the city is affected. You may not know that your neighbor, cousin, or best friend may be going through this but it is happening and if things get really bad 62,000 more vacant homes (37,000 potentially occupied) may be added to the list of problems the city is facing. Then the issues of gentrification and “new” vs “old” Detroit will be set aflame when these houses are listed for $500.   Everyone should care what happens to these homes…because someone lives here. http://vimeo.com/118054015 Find out more here: www.becausesomeoneliveshere.com
