As I have personally made it a mission to learn Adobe Premier, a video editing software, I’ve had the opportunity to work on teams that have a passion for storytelling as much as I do.
For this challenge we had the opportunity to partner with the Fitzgerald Neighborhood in Detroit to create a video celebrating the people and history of the neighborhood.
While we could have taken the challenge lightly, and talked to a couple of people, we took a different approach and attempted to collect, connect, and collaborate with as many residents as possible on this project to really bring the spirit of the community to the surface and represent it visually in a way they could be proud of.
By taking on a more human-centered point of view we ended up with two short videos. The first one called Faces of Fitzgerald is meant to celebrate the residents through interviews along with images of the place they call home. The second video called My Neighborhood is a poem read my different residents to showcase the pride they have from living and loving in Fitzgerald, Detroit, Michigan.
I’ve learned that a good artist lives goes for the ‘show don’t tell’ mantra and that is exactly what I’m going to do.
Crank it up to 1080pHD and Enjoy,
Zeke
