I was going to make the whole “who has two thumbs and plays in two different sports leagues during the week” joke and then point at myself with my two thumbs and say “this guy”. Of course, none of this would make sense reading on a computer screen and would also come off as arrogant, and we don’t want that. All this to say, though, that I’ve found some pretty fun things to do here. A handful of fellows and I joined the citywide soccer league as part of the Lafayette Park squad. We just had our first practice, which means some rigorous soccer followed by some not-as-rigorous beer drinking. Next week our Challenge Volleyball team kicks off our summer sand league, which looks especially promising after last weekend’s “practice.” Rounding out the outdoors section of my “play” component are bike rides to and around Belle Isle and running on the Riverfront (a random assortment of fellows found themselves doing this simultaneously a few days ago… you had to be there). But I’m pretty psyched for some upcoming concerts as well – the Postal Service rolls into Detroit in June, the Oakaloosa music festival is in July, and Of Monsters and Men and the Lumineers head this way this summer as well. Add an Eastern Market Saturday to the mix, and you have yourself a solid week. So needless to say, there are fun things to do and we’re doing them.
