I’ve been in California for about half of December, but I still had a lot of great experiences in Detroit!

I went back to the DSO for Mix @ The Max. It was amazing! I’m really enjoying the programs at the DSO. I highly encourage anyone who hasn’t been to check them out, it’s a real gem. I watched Kris Bowers put on a beautiful performance with Julia Easterlin. Kris is a talented pianist and Julie has a hypnotic, sultry voice. She did a mesmerizing cover of Brittany Spears’ Toxic. The lyrics are actually pretty good for a top 40 pop song.

I also volunteered at the MOCAD’s monster drawing rally. It was a fun event where several artist made mixed media pieces that visitors could purchase. My good friends Natalie and Trevor were there under the moniker We Draw Together. It was exciting to see so many artists and patrons interacting. I believe the event was a fundraiser for MOCAD.

In non Detroit news, I finally bought a car and went skiing for the second time at Mt. Brighton. Gah! So much activity in about two weeks!

Reconnecting with friends in California, I’m acting as the ambassador to my (re)adopted city. I enjoy talking with them about “what it’s like living in Detroit”. When I get back from my California trip, I think I’ll reflect further on Detroit and where its going.
