October
by: Robert Frost
“O hushed October morning mild,
Thy leaves have ripened to the fall;
Tomorrow’s wind, if it be wild,
Should waste them all.
The crows above the forest call;
Tomorrow they may form and go.
O hushed October morning mild,
Begin the hours of this day slow.
Make the day seem to us less brief.
Hearts not averse to being beguiled,
Beguile us in the way you know.
Release one leaf at break of day;
At noon release another leaf;
One from our trees, one far away.
Retard the sun with gentle mist;
Enchant the land with amethyst.
Slow, slow!
For the grapes’ sake, if they were all,
Whose leaves already are burnt with frost,
Whose clustered fruit must else be lost—
For the grapes’ sake along the wall.”
This October I would like to share with you a tradition I have with my family, College of Charleston Sailing Team, and friends. When sitting down for dinner with family, teammates, and friends, we reflect on the past month by sharing your favorite and not so favorite moments, aka “Highs and Lows.” This simple tradition reminds me of the wonderful life I live and the great people with whom I share all my memories. I prefer to get the Lows out of the way first and focus on the positive things in life, and without further adieu:
Lows:
– Slamming my finger in a car door! That moment when you know the pain is coming but it just hasn’t hit you yet.
– Falling from 11th to 16th out of 16 in my Fantasy Hockey League… Help, please!
Highs:
