Often times, an internet profile and a picture can make life and adjustments seem seamless and simple. However, that is far from what this adjustment has been for me. Moving back to Detroit could not have come at a more horrible time in my life. With my mother adjusting to a life-altering illness and the dissolution of my foundation in Maryland, my move back to Michigan was not made without a lot of doubt and even more guilt.
The fellowship has indeed kept me and my mind busy, but what I appreciate most is the people it has surrounded me with. Vibrant, full of life, and passion. That’s what my fellow Challenge Detroit fellows are. Perhaps they aren’t even aware of how much their enthusiasm and positive attitudes have helped me, but I am certainly thankful that this group of people and this fellowship exist.
Beaumont is a wonderful place to work. I feel blessed and beyond grateful that I have supervisors and co-workers that are so invested in my professional development.
September in Detroit has made me feel even closer to my city than ever before. When things look despairing in aspects of my life as they have in Detroit, the people of this city and their spirit continue to be our uplift.
For that reason, I’m looking forward to October in the 313…
