The end of the calendar year is a great time for reflection. You can assess where you are in life professionally, personally, and spiritually. 21014 has definitely been a great year for me!

Professionally: 2014 marks the first year I have had full time employment for an entire year. Some would say I should not mention this but I am not ashamed. My time after undergrad was not a struggle but more of a journey. I’ve second guessed my career choice and path, i’ve applied for jobs that are total opposite of my degree, i’ve taken unpaid internships, and side jobs to keep money in my pocket. Through it all, I learned with this fellowship, this professional sector that i’m where i’m supposed to be. I’m supposed to be in Detroit, i’m supposed to be in education, i’m supposed to be a hand up to people who need it, i’m supposed to fight this good fight.

Personally: I have nurtured friendships that have lasted decades and some that are approaching a decade. The goomsmen in my wedding are three people that I hold near and dear to my heart.

Spiritually: Before I started my position at Wayne County Community College District and with Challenge Detroit, I prayed for good leadership and a mentor and I received just that. This is the first job i’ve had where i’m not coming home stressed and undervalued. I leave feeling engaged, supported, and needed. I leave work looking forward to going back. This feeling is one that I could not plan for, it was one I could only pray for.

Going forward in 2015 I pray that I keep fighting this good fight in education, I continue to nurture those friendships and grow some new ones with my co fellows, and continue to become stronger spiritually.
