It’s remarkable how one can leave a place for a while, come back, and have it feel so familiar.
I screen printed a lot in April. It was wonderful and transported me to my ink slinging days before moving to Chicago. Not only did I screen print, but I did it for the people! I spent a whole Saturday screen printing my own designs at Back Alley Bikes. Here’s proof:
It was wonderful for many reasons: one, screen printing is amazing; two, it raised money for an awesome organization with a worthwhile cause(yeaaa transportation justice and youth empowerment!); three, people brought in old clothes that I recycled (ha!) through the alchemy of print making. Just look at how happy it makes people!
Real talk: screen printing is a highly accessible medium that can get a message out on multiple pieces, both in variety and quantity, quickly. The opportunity for community organizations to use screen printing to get their messaging out is huge! It not that hard either and the costs are low. As I’m settling into Detroit, I’m looking forward working with more organizations to get their messaging out.
Screen printing at Back Alley was definitely the high light of this month– oh and going to this:
