May marks my favorite month of the year and this year’s was one of the best. I was born in May, so I’m biased to favor it, but there was so much celebration this month that sans b-day it would still be spectacular. The festivities started with this:

Hands down my favorite music related event of the the year is Metro Times’ annual Blowout.

A mulit-day, multi-city celebration of Detroit music, mostly rock n roll. I had the chance to catch the Black Lips this year, and while they’re not from Detroit, I won’t hold that against them because they delivered an energetic show. Thank you Black Lips!

Next up, another Metro Times party, their annual best of party feature the best food and drink our fair metropolis has to offer.

Check out this year’s winners here. I was glad to see Buddy’s Pizza there, I missed them in my time away from Michigan. It was held at Motor City Casino, where my Dad works, hi Dad!

Further north, some amazing people put on an amazing event, the Porous Boarders Festival in Hamtramck , a two-day community arts festival explore boarders old and new. An especially pertinent topic for Hamtramck as the city is one of the most diverse in country.

Here’s hoping the rest of summer can keep up!
