This week, I will finally be submitting my medical school application. This month, I wanted to share an excerpt from my personal statement.

….”Witnessing the improvements in my mother’s quality of life due to medicine has allowed me to regard her progress as nothing short of a miracle that I want to become part of sharing. My experiences as a caretaker for my mother along with my personal health troubles have driven my personal and professional development. Becoming a physician is a goal that many aspire to. However, for me, becoming a physician is the only path that quenches my constant thirst for gaining knowledge, educating marginalized communities like the one I come from, and assisting those who suffer like my mother. I am no stranger to late nights and early mornings spent caring for another human being or the seemingly unendurable pain that many people suffer from. I can empathize with those who receive life-altering diagnoses and the loved ones who will help to care for them on their journey to recovery. I am committed to educating people about behavioral changes that can prevent illnesses before they begin through effective communication so that people know how to implement these changes into their lives. Furthermore, I am devoted to becoming educated on how to use medicine to restore health where it is lacking. Practicing medicine is not only the best way to cultivate and share my compassion, passion for learning, and desire to help everyone including those who are normally overlooked, it is the only way that makes sense in my life”
