Millions of individuals across the U.S. have altered their workspace drastically; transitioning from an office to their home. I’ve read about many approaches to finding a “work/life balance” while your commute and separation of space have been eliminated. Below, I describe some of the things I’ve adopted into my workdays that help me stay focused all day long.

1. Establishing Mini-Goals
Throughout the day, I have found that I sit in the same place without moving for HOURS, resulting in a sore back by 5pm. To break things up, and get a few more steps in, I try to utilize time when meetings end early, or a break in my calendar, to do mini chores around the house. For example, I may unload the dishwasher, switch out the laundry, tidy up the family room or wipe down the bathroom. These tasks always take less than 10 minutes and are a perfect way to get up and move my body. They also leave you feeling a little more productive!

2. Avoid the snacks!!
Snacking is inevitable because it’s so AVAILABLE. However, instead of giving in every time, I have tried to drink a glass of water when I think I want a snack. If I am still hungry after the water, I will let myself have some sort of small snack. I think this strategy has helped me mindlessly munch less and also drink more H20, which I have been pretty bad about!

3. Plan a walk
I try to block time on your work calendar every day or two for a 30 minute walk. My dog, Beau, has really enjoyed this and I find myself recharged from the screen time break. This is also a great way to get a few more steps in and spend time out of my desk chair.
