I grew up on the West Side of Detroit. Now, I live on the East Side. I know native Detroiters reading this everywhere are wondering what’s wrong with me. You see, there has always been a fun rivalry between the West Side and the East Side and which side is better. Of course, we all know it’s the West Side 🙂 but since I’ve moved back home for Challenge Detroit, I have been living on the East Side in the Indian Village area and have been loving it! When it’s all said and done, though, I am pro-Detroit, ALL of Detroit, so I thought I would share some of my favorite things about both the East Side and the West Side.
My Favorite Things about the East Side
Close to downtown and midtown and all the great things that are happening in those areas
I live on the Gold Coast, so my backyard view is the Detroit River and Canada. In the summer, it is so relaxing and breathtaking to sit in the backyard and just reflect
My street, East Jefferson Avenue, is vibrant – Detroit landmarks such as the Renaissance Center and Belle Isle are right down the street
My Favorite Things about the West Side
A quick freeway drive to my favorite regional malls
My old neighborhood, Green Acres, and its surrounding neighborhoods, Sherwood Forest, Palmer Park and University District, have some of the most gorgeous homes in the city!
It’s my childhood home – so many fond memories of school, hanging out with friends and just having a great childhood right here in the city of Detroit
So, as you can see, Detroit as a whole has a lot to offer. Whether it be midtown, downtown, Greektown, Corktown, Southwest, the East Side, the West Side or wherever, there’s beauty, opportunity and history here. I heart this place!
