Living in Detroit has truly been a great experience for me so far! I moved in to my house in New Center in early August, and have discovered so much about the area since I arrived.
My house is located near the historic Virginia Park district in New Center and was built in 1900. The house itself is amazing, and my landlord has done an excellent job in restoring the property back to a livable and luxurious state. (I even have a Jacuzzi tub in my bathroom!) I chose to live in a house in order to connect myself into a neighborhood network where I could get involved. The surrounding neighborhood is very friendly, and occasionally we will all get together for dinner or other events. I share the property with 5 amazing young professionals, who all work in close proximity to the city.
The best part for me about living close to the city is being close to everything that I would ever want to do. I am within walking distance of a number of great bars and restaurants, and even my fitness center. Downtown and midtown are great areas for young professionals, and I am constantly meeting new people with similar interests.
Coming from Ohio, I was a little skeptical on what living downtown might be like. Now that I’ve been here for a few months, I have really gotten to experience all of the great things that exist when you live close to the city.
