Four closets. Seven jackets. Too many blouses and jeans to count.
My girlfriend’s family and I spent a good chunk of last weekend cleaning out our closets to donate to the Coalition on Temporary Shelter (COTS) in Detroit, Michigan.
Is it too big? Too small to zip up? When was the last time I wore this?
These were just a few of the questions that rolled off our tongues when we were rummaging through our possesions.
During the process, I came up with these helpful tips on how to stop yourself from becoming a Kardashian and start living with less.
If you haven’t wore it in a year, donate it!
Feel free to part with fads — they might be part of last year’s collection, but they could make someone else feel brand new!
Business clothes lead to business jobs! Donate professional clothing, suits and quality shoes for those looking for work or going back to work.
If it looks good on you, just think of how great it could look on someone else!
Accessorize! Don’t forget to donate belts, jewelry, purses, and winter gear like gloves and hats. How many scarves can one person really wear??
And finally…
Manage your closet with quarterly donations! Michigan is nice enough to provide us with four seasons. Make use of them by slimming down your wardrobe each time we enter a new time of year!
