Before Challenge Detroit I never really had the chance to volunteer on a consistent basis.  I have helped out at charity foundations before but nothing like the work we are doing as fellows.  For this reason, I was very intrigued to get involved with volunteering and what better way to do it than in my city of Detroit!

So far, this community impact work has been more of a learning experience than I could have imagined.  It has been really nice to partner with a wide range of non-profits including ones as notable as United Way all the way to Matrix Human Services in the Osborne neighborhood of Detroit.  It really shows me what non-profits can do with the right resources. Unfortunately, not all of these non-profits have the resources to accomplish their goals and this is really where our “challenge” comes to play.

With such a wide range of backgrounds and skills in our Challenge Detroit cohort of fellows, we are able to create and develop diverse and unique solutions for these non-profits as well as insights and ideas that they never had before.  Some of our solutions will be have immediate impact and other ideas may not, but the point is that we are giving it our all to help enable these non-profits to accomplish their goals and together better our city of Detroit!
