Question: Tell us about your company and what you do.
Answer: My host company, Brooks Kushman, is a national law firm specializing in litigation, procurement, licensing, and counseling services related to intellectual property and technological matters. At Brooks Kushman, I have the pleasure of working with co-workers dealing in marketing, accounting, and recruiting.
Question: Describe an accomplishment or contribution you’ve made at your company.
Answer: While at Brooks Kushman, I have had the opportunity to work on one project that will help the entire company. I worked on a docket that compiled information for over 800 clients. This will allow staff or attorneys an opportunity to access client documents faster and more efficiently.
Question: What makes working for your company unique?
Answer: Given my background in civil engineering (acquired from Virginia Tech, go Hokies!), it is a unique experience to work with an intellectual property law firm. Being exposed to another field I particularly did not know much about beforehand has been rewarding.
Question: Why do you enjoy working in the Detroit community?
Answer: As a newcomer this year, being exposed to Metro Detroit through my job gives me more experience getting to know what this area is like, and how it is perceived by others who have lived here for a long time.
Question: What’s the biggest highlight of working at your company?
Answer: Hmm, biggest highlight working for Brooks Kushman? I would say gaining a knowledge of learning and experience in a field I never thought I would exposed to, but that will have to be second to the way Brooks Kushman treats their employees. Brooks Kushman does a good job of appreciating their employees and making the work environment better than what you might think of a typical law firm.
