Question: Tell us about your company and what you do.
Answer: Beaumont Health System is one of the most highly awarded and highest ranking hospital systems in the region. With a workforce exceeding 14,000 employees, Beaumont is also a leading regional employer. Where do I fit in? That’s a question I pondered for quite some time, wondering where such a well-organized and advanced organization could use my raw talent. Apparently, or at least they make me feel this way, I was the exact person the Beaumont Grosse Pointe campus needed. At the hospital my designation is “Administrative Resident” and it grants me the right to feel special. Being entrenched in the multi-faceted non-profit health care institution by just being in the same hallway as the President, Finance Controller, VP’s, and Physician-in-Chief is definitely an experience that would make all healthcare hopefuls jealous! At the hospital I have undertaken over a dozen projects and initiatives that range from greening movements, spreading health welfare through the city, and health campaigns to inform the greater Detroit area of their rights in healthcare.
Question: Describe an accomplishment or contribution you’ve made at your company.
Answer: My role involves taking community partnership ideas from Beaumont’s upper levels and actualizing them into a final product. One such instance was called “Volunteer Stories,” which enhanced our company community by exposing workers to volunteers, resulting in a more inclusive and community-oriented workplace.
Question: What makes working for your company unique?
Answer: Beaumont is such a sprawling and impressive non-profit company, but still manages to host so many effective community initiatives. What’s more, all members of the Beaumont team, from a fellow, like me, to the President and Finance Directors at the top, are welcomed in this inclusive community and are encouraged to innovate and initiate solutions of their own.
Question: Why do you enjoy working in the Detroit community?
Answer: Detroit’s expansive diversity, wide-ranging history, and varied architecture combine to create a distinct metropolitanism that makes Detroit one of the world’s great cities. This metropolitanism ensures that every day is met with new people, new places, and new encounters that are truly uplifting and life-altering. The metropolitanism evident in Detroit communities also creates a beautiful unity within and between communities that I believe will allow for Detroit’s reinvigoration.
Question: What’s the biggest highlight of working at your company?
Answer: The biggest highlight of work with Beaumont for me has been that I’ve gotten a great chance to see the hospital from the administrative perspective. As I hope to pursue the clinical perspective of hospitals as a doctor, I am greatly benefited by this view as it allows a peak into potential leadership roles I can pursue as a physician.
