This fall I will be moving to Washington, DC where I will attend graduate classes at Georgetown University. It has been a great year here in Detroit and I will miss it so so so so much! I am excited about the opportunity to be a Detroit Ambassador and spread the good news of how absolutely amazing Detroit is among those that otherwise may never take the time to visit because they don’t know what they are missing! Here are a few things I noticed in comparison to Detroit.
1. Your Money goes a lot further in Detroit.
While apartment shopping I did notice that a lot of things were more expensive in the Metro, DC area then in the area I stay in now. I don’t see this as good or bad just interesting. I have heard the saying your money goes further in Detroit. I would have to say from my recent observations in comparison to another large city this is a factual statement.
2. DC is ahead of Detroit in the transportation department.
You already knew this. The metro system in DC is definitely something I will be utilizing next year. The idea of not having to drive everywhere or pay outrageous gas prices majority of the time is amazing! Detroit is starting to catch the public transportation fever, Rome wasn’t built in a day and it will take time.
3. The Sites to see…
Detroit: Riverfront, Historically Relevant Structures, National Landmarks, Beautiful Architecture, Historical Museums.
DC: National landmarks, The President, Historical Museums, Beautiful Architecture.
I would give this category a tie. Both of these cities have a never ending list of places to explore from those nationally known to those “best kept secrets” that you stumble upon when you’re not searching, Detroit has kept me very busy as I am sure DC will.
All in all I am sad to be leaving but excited to be going. Detroit and DC are both amazing! I am so fortunate to soon be able to have experienced them both.
Cheers!
