Having a perfect workday is an attainable goal with good intentions, but there will be times in my career that I make mistakes. Yesterday I sent an email with incorrect information – twice. Now, I know this is a small happening in the larger scheme of things, but as my inbox became flooded with emails from the team making note of my initial mistake (and of the one following), I quickly lost patience with myself.
My interaction with the Area Sales Managers is very limited. The group only works in the Great Lakes Business Center a few days each month, so it doesn’t surprise me that I would get upset over a silly email, because I am someone who takes first impressions very seriously. Now, this is not my first impression with the team, but it does happen to be one of the few things I do to support their success. I would prefer that the content be perfect. Moving forward, the right plan of action is to take a second to evaluate the revised version before committing to it blindly. Yesterday, I learned that the hard way.
So as I gather my thoughts, and devour this month’s Vogue and a Chicken Salad sandwich, I’ll take a moment to remind myself of what really happened yesterday 10:23am and that it was just an email. Also that it will never be as bad as that one time, while working at Corporate Incentives, I tried to send pictures of George Michael singing with WHAM! to the Art Department and accidentally sent them to a client. That story is much more hilarious, but I will leave it for another time.
