The Metro Times recently posted a list of 100 Things All Detroiters Should Do Before They Die. This was exactly what I needed after countless days of subzero temperatures. The cold wind chill and icy sidewalks on my walk to work every day have not put me in the best mood. But reading through this list made me excited for all the places I’m going to visit and things I’m going to do – once I come out of hibernation of course.
I was happy to see that there were a number of things I had already accomplished on the list like shopping at Eastern Market, eating the best chicken and waffles from the New Center Eatery, seeing a show at the Majestic, enjoying the Bloody Mary bar at the Bronx Bar and eating at Loui’s Pizza (located a little outside Detroit, but the best Detroit-style pizza you will ever have!).
I’m not a fan of this winter cold at all, so I know I will not be starting on the bulk of this list until spring, but I thought I’d list a few things that are at the top of my list for when the warm weather rolls around.
- Visit John K. King Books – Four stories worth of books!
- Check out the Marche du Nain Rouge Parade – Costumes, old myths and parades – sign me up!
- Slow Roll – I need a bike first, but can’t wait to join the growing bike community in Detroit.
- Finally take a tour of the Motown Museum – The birthplace of my favorite music.
- A night out at Baker’s Keyboard Lounge – The oldest continuously operating jazz venue in the world. So much history and beautiful music!
So winter hurry up and get out of here so I can get back to exploring Detroit and checking things of my list!
