Question: Tell us about your company?
Answer: I work for Credit Acceptance – the company whose Chairman and Founder, Don Foss, made a major personal contribution to support the launch of Challenge Detroit. Credit Acceptance is an indirect auto financing company that works with car dealers across the nation to enable them to sell cars to consumers on credit, regardless of their credit history. In other words, we allow all individuals and families to purchase a car even if they have bad credit.
Whenever I describe this to my friends, everyone always responds the same way – that is such a huge risk! You guys must be crazy!
We believe, though, that everyone deserves a second chance. Our business success proves that it’s never too late for you to have a fresh start.
Question: Describe what you do for your organization?
Answer: My title at Credit Acceptance is the “Great Place to Work Ambassador.” One of our company goals is to be one of the greatest workplaces in the country, and I have the responsibility of working towards this everyday.
One of the highlights of my job is organizing events with different non-profits. Within the past five months, we donated over 24 pints of blood to the American Red Cross, helped 178 children for the holidays, volunteered 345 hours, and donated over 2,600 pounds of food.
Along with helping to manage Credit Acceptance’s community involvement, I also get to help with strategy and implementation of our great place to work initiatives. It’s really inspiring to work with leaders who are so committed to creating a fun work environment. I remember during my first day at work, one of our leaders told me that life is too short to not have fun at work.
Since I’ve started with Credit Acceptance, we have won a handful awards for our workplace – we came in sixth place in the 2012 Detroit Free Press Top Workplaces competition and also received the award for the 101 Best and Brightest Companies to work for in the nation.
Question: What makes working for your company unique?
A unique aspect of Credit Acceptance is how strategic we are in our decisions. We are very data driven and always confront the brutal facts before making any big decision. I enjoy both working and learning in this environment.
