As I shift between reverse and drive, in my car not designed for snow, I finally give in to the fact that I am stuck in a snowbank that seems to have taken over every parking spot in the city of Detroit. This has happened more than once to me this year. Yes, it is true, I am not a fan of getting stuck. However, each time this happens to me, I’m overwhelmed by the way the people around me act. Each time I’ve gotten stuck, at least three people have stopped what they were doing to help push my car out of the snow. Three people, all of them outside in subzero weather, came to my rescue. That in mind, I’d like to dedicate this blog to those people. Those people, the ones who simply do the right thing without expecting anything in return. This city never has never failed in demonstrating to me that, in Detroit, ordinary, everyday people engage in small acts of kindness on a scale that would humble even the hardest of souls. Even when you’re stuck in a seemingly endless snowbank, chances are someone nearby is ready and willing to help get you on your way.
