March 8, 2014  Recycle Here!

My team has been working with Green Living Science on this month’s challenge. To better understand recycling in Detroit and (more importantly) to try the phở truck that recently started coming to Recycle Here! every Saturday, we packed our car with recyclables and visited this busy recycling center.

March 10, 2014    Palmer Park Area

It was sunny when I got off work that day, I decided to drive around the Palmer Park area. As I was wandering on Woodward, an interesting house caught my attention. The rich colors of the beautiful murals makes this place stand out from the surroundings.

A friend of mine later told me that there used to be a drum circle in the garden every now and then. I have not checked out this place yet but will definitely do soon.

March 14, 2014    GM Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Center Tour

This was my first time in an assembly center. The timing was perfect because I just visited DIA to see Diego Rivera’s mural two days before. Many things in the mural suddenly came to life in my mind when I entered the assembly center.

March 27, 2014  Lyft Community Launch Party

Like Uber, Lyft is a ride-sharing start-up that is rapidly expanding into many cities. They had a launch party in Detroit on March 27. I was one of the many who signed up to be the Detroit founding driver, even though pink really isn’t my color. Unfortunately, after I passed the selection process and even received my mustache, I was told that I have to be a U.S. person in order to be a driver and to sign up for hours through their specially engineered driver portal. It was a bummer, but at least I got to witness the launching of Lyft in Detroit.

March 28, 2014   Challenge Detroit “March Madness” Presentation
