Last night I had the chance to visit with my cousin, as he was in Detroit for a conference. He already had dinner plans lined up, so it was my responsibility to determine a beer/cocktail venue for us to hangout. My first instinct was to go with one of my tried and true locations: Hopcat, Brew(or)Batch Detroit, or Atwater Brewery. I then realized this was a great opportunity to try an establishment that I have never been-Punchbowl Social. Thus, I spent a great evening chatting with a cousin I haven’t seen in a while, in a fun lively new setting.
That’s the great thing about Detroit, as much as Nellie and I have taken advantage of fun events, museums, new restaurants, etc, there is still so much more for us to see and partake in. Below is a list of events/places that I look forward to experiencing in Detroit as the thermometer rises.
The Detroit Slow Roll: http://www.slowroll.bike/
Detroit’s all inclusive weekly community bike ride. Thousands of community members bike together and see the beautiful sites of the city. This event will require me to purchase a new bike….but thanks to craigslist, that shouldn’t be a problem.
Gold Cash Gold: http://www.goldcashgolddetroit.com/
No, this isn’t E Channel’s newest reality show; it’s actually a new trendy restaurant in the heart of Corktown. Gold Cash Gold’s was named after the locations previous pawn shop tenant’s. The uniqueness of the food and the restaurants exterior are definitely drawing me in.
Detroit FC: http://www.detcityfc.com/history
Detroit Football Club is Detroit’s local minor league soccer team. I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about the atmosphere at Detroit FC games. It doesn’t hurt that my fellow Fellow Zeke Harris is on the team.
Detroit Historical Museum: http://detroithistorical.org/detroit-historical-museum/plan-your-visit/general-information
This FREE museum is walking distance from our house. My desire to tour the museum was sparked when I briefly visited for another event. As I’ve mentioned in a previous blog, I love learning about the history of Detroit and the Ferry Street neighborhood. I can’t wait to take in all the knowledge on an upcoming weekend.
As soon as I cross the above locations off the list, I know 4 more equally fun/cool/tasty/educational events or locations will become our newest must see.
