Since moving to Detroit, I have fielded a lot of questions about city living. While I tried my best to counter preconceived notions about Detroit, overriding decades of “city in ruins” imagery is no easy task! It’s hard for many to conceptualize Detroit as a thriving place, but living here has taught me differently.

I moved downtown next to Comerica Park in late-August and I don’t think I could have selected a better location or time to move to Detroit. Living downtown has allowed me to see the ever-changing Detroit landscape right up close. Within the first few months of living here, I experienced the Tigers in the playoffs, hundreds of new residents moving downtown, and new businesses and restaurants sprouting up throughout the city.

There is never a shortage of things to do. I run on the RiverWalk, go to concerts, eat at fantastic restaurants, and do what people typically do in cities. But Detroit offers something unique that I don’t think I could experience anywhere else. It is rebuilding and reinventing itself so quickly that I have literally seen the city change and evolve in the three months since I’ve been here. Can’t wait to see what happens next!
