Living in Detroit has been an interesting experience. This is the first city that I’ve lived in where I have felt the need to learn about the city.

Detroit is an open city, I feel as though I know where to go when it comes to events. Being able to attend so many different events is what makes Detroit special to me. In New York City, I often felt confused as to what was going on in the city. There was a sense of disconnect. When it comes to Detroit, I feel plugged in and connected to the community. Upon arrival to Detroit, I vowed to try different foods at every restaurant. Throughout these last seven months, I have tried many restaurants but the most unique one which is walking distance from me is Fishbones. Fishbones is somewhat of a Louisiana styled cuisine. At Fishbones I tasted alligator for the first time. Never in a million years would I have thought of eating alligator, it just sounds slimy! The alligator bites were surprisingly good; it kind of tasted like chicken with a texture. The only reason why I have felt so daring is because being in this new city. Why not try something new!

I’m glad that I made the decision to move to Detroit and broaden my horizon. Detroit has taught me a lot about a number of things that I’m grateful for. I wouldn’t trade this year for anything; it has been full of lessons and adventures.
