Hi lovlies.

This past week has been very interesting in terms of politics, both in Detroit and the nation as a whole. Many people are aware of my feelings about the Kwame Kilpatrick sentencing, but if you are looking for a rant about that, you won’t find it here (sorry!). During Kilpatrick’s tenure as mayor, the city saw some good and some bad. I will leave it at that.

I will say that I am angry, but not for the reason you may think. What bothers me is the fact that Americans (who have never visited Detroit) with CNN apps on their phones or FOX News on their television will hear about the corruption and jailtime this week; this has the potential to proliferate the idea that Detroit is a “wasteland” and should never be considered progressive. What I want you to do, my friends, is take a look at this lovely photo. 🙂

Sure, we may look like madmen here (!!!), but we are doing some amazing things to bring the city that we love back to where it belongs. Imagine if even half of the publicity that the Kilpatrick case received this week was directed towards these 32 changemakers in the city…don’t you think the narrative would be exceptionally different? Moving forward and changing the perception of our rising city will take real, concentrated effort, but as you can see, a million good acts can be pushed to the side and forgotten amidst a drama-filled story that is attractive to the media.

Let Me Explain: WE’RE NOT GIVING UP! You will see us fight, so join in or get left out.

Share with your network that Detroit isn’t defined by its downfalls, but by its extraordinary resiliency in the face of distress.
