What do I want for Christmas for Detroit? The Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame to find its own space and home in Detroit. There is no doubt that a huge part of Detroit’s history and future is music-from Blues to R&B to Soul (& specifically Motown) to Rock to Hip Hop and Rap, Detroit has remained a center in the creation of meaningful music.

In 2010, former Harlem Globetrotter LaMont “Showboat” Robinson founded the Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame and after sharing the museum as a traveling exhibit, he is moving his collection permanently to Detroit. The museum has the potential to complement United Sound Recording, Hitsville U.S.A., and its Motown Museum. With a strong museum population in the cultural center and the greater metro Detroit area and Detroit being a birthplace of much music (especially Motown), Detroit provides the ideal city to build the Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame. With historic theaters and venues across the city, such as Harpo’s, there is the potential to restore another piece of Detroit’s history in commentating its musicians.

To learn more about the museum visit their website here. Also, while dreams of a white Christmas may not have come true, dreams of a Motown Christmas (and listening to groovy Christmas tunes tonight) can still come true. Merry Christmas to all! Listen below for my favorite collection of Stevie Wonder, Jackson 5, The Temptations, The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, and more singing your favorite Christmas tunes-Motown style.
