In the past few months I have been doing A LOT of coffee drinking, so I thought I would share my top five favorite places in Detroit to catch a brew or two.

1. MADCAP – 1413 Farmer St

MADCAP recently opened in the Shinola Hotel downtown and hails from Grand Rapids, where they roast and serve their coffee. My favorite drink at MADCAP is the affogato – it’s an espresso shot poured over ice cream – what’s not to love?

2. Dessert Oasis Coffee – 1220 Griswold St

Dessert Oasis is on Griswold Street – it is surprisingly large, yet intimate place – one of my favorite places to get work done. They are in-house roasters who got their start in 2009. My favorite drink at Dessert Oasis is the Chai Tea Latte – the smoothest one in the city.

3. The Urban Bean Co. – 200 Grand River Ave

The Urban Bean Co. is a very unique space in downtown, a double story, floor to ceiling glass, retro building. There is honestly nothing cooler than stepping foot inside! This visit I got a Harney & Sons Earl Grey Tea.

4. Detroit Sip – 7420 W McNichols Rd

Detroit Sip officially opened in November of 2017, just up the road from my alma mater University of Detroit Mercy. Jevona Watson, the owner, is also a Build Institute Graduate, just like me! At Detroit Sip I have two favorites – the Livernois Latte and the Ford Frappe.

5. Narrow Way Cafe – 19331 Livernois

Narrow Way is also close to my alma mater, on the Avenue of Fashion. They have a beautiful shop, full of vibrant and involved employees. While it isn’t coffee, my favorite drink is the Peach Ring Smoothie, it’s the perfect amount of Lime and Peach.
