Question: Tell us about your company and what you do.
Answer: My host company is Urban Science. Urban Science is a software consulting firm, which specializes in utilizing scientific analysis, process-optimizing software and leveraging experienced consultants to deliver solutions that help automotive clients increase market share and boost profitability through high performing retail networks.
I work on the Recruitment Team within the Human Resources Department as a Recruiting Associate. In my role I support the recruiting activity of the company through taking on a variety of responsibilities ranging from attending career fairs, scheduling interviews, posting job opportunities and compiling reports which monitor and track the hiring activity. Since September, I have learned numerable necessary skills while working with my dedicated Recruitment Team at Urban Science. Urban Science is a great company to work for!
Question: Describe an accomplishment or contribution you’ve made at your company
Answer: One of the biggest assignments I have undertaken in my role as a Recruiting Associate was to compile a report on the global hiring activity in 2012 for Urban Science. In order to complete this project I had the opportunity to interact with the Urban Science Recruitment Team from around the world, and really enjoyed it! It was a challenging and rewarding task that allowed me to learn more about the international dimension of my host company and contribute something which was beneficial for the future as well.
Question: What makes working for your company unique?
Answer: Urban Science has an inspiring story and they are a company that is committed to the success of Detroit. They embrace the city and even have an independent Live Detroit program which encourages their employees to live in the city. There is also a committed philanthropic effort with a focus on education. Another perk is the view! Every single time I arrive and depart I am able to see the beauty of Detroit. From my office I can see Belle Isle, The Ambassador Bridge, The Detroit River and Canada. I love it!
Question: Why do you enjoy working in the Detroit community?
Answer: I enjoy working in the Detroit community because there is a sense of camaraderie between the people here. There are smart, talented and creative people from around the country and the world, who have decided to come and stay in the region. I take comfort in knowing that there are people who really care about the city and have not only self-interest but a community interest in Detroit. At Urban Science I am able to share what I am doing with Challenge Detroit as well as the different events and venues I go to- and am not only met with genuine interest but receive other tips and ideas for where to go and what to see from my colleagues.
Question: What’s the biggest highlight of working at your company?
Answer: The biggest highlight about working at Urban Science is twofold. First, I love knowing that the work I do is centered on attracting and retaining the best and brightest in Detroit. Secondly, it is great to work for a Detroit based company who is known to be the best in class around the world!
