An Interview with Fellow Cornetta Lane: “The Jeffersons’” Theme Songs Turns Reality
Question: Tell us what it’s like living in Detroit.
Answer: Living in Detroit is not as scary as it seems! Despite the negative press, Detroit is one of the top 5 places that I would start a family. I mean, there’s so much to discover and experience; I’d be remiss to surrender my life’s milestone to another city.
Q: What have you learned about Detroit that’s unique?
A: What I’ve discovered about Detroit is that people aren’t afraid of exploring the next great thing! Groups and organizations have sprung up throughout Detroit to meet the social and cultural needs of the community. For example, I joined a group called Detroit Bike & Brunch. And, we do just that; bike to a local restaurant and eat! It is a fantastic way to meet new people, get some exercise and eat some amazing food.
Q: How do you answer tough questions about living in the city?
A: Speaking of food, one of the commonly asked questions that people ask me is “Where do you shop for groceries?” Truthfully, I have access to healthy, quality food. I’m within walking distance of the Eastern Market, and if I can’t find what I need there, I shop at the small grocer less than 500 yards from my apartment. In addition, I am within a one mile radius of dozens of Yelp!-recommended restaurants and bars. I can’t complain.
Q: Anything else you want to share with us about city living?
A: Since the start of Challenge Detroit, I’m living like the Jeffersons’. I moved on up, to the eastside of Detroit, with my deluxe apartment in the sky. Oh yes! I have a brand new appreciation for the city that raised me. I no longer view it as a stagnate, lack luster city, but a city that is alive and well!
