Question: Tell us about your company and what you do.
Answer: My host company is Spire Integrated Systems, and we are a premium provider for award winning audio/video and control systems throughout the metro Detroit area and other regions. We work to provide our clients with state-of-the-art technology that helps them to live a fully integrated lifestyle. We help people harness technology to make their daily lives easier and more manageable.
At Spire, I am the Design Industry Outreach Coordinator, with my main focus being on establishing and enhancing our relationships with our partners in the industry. We believe in collaborating with our architects and designers to create the best possible results for our clients. Through my involvement with the Detroit Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and the American Society of Interior Designers we are able to mesh the worlds of technology and high-design together through by enabling these relationships. On a daily scope my job responsibilities range from managing all of our social media platforms to planning engaging events to furthering the impact of our brand image and messaging across multiple platforms.
Question: Describe an accomplishment or contribution you’ve made at your company.
Answer: On top of my responsibilities focused on our professional relationships, I have also helped to revamp and launch our social media and marketing process. We had a very small Facebook following and no presence on any other platform when I started in September. I took the new knowledge I gained of our company in my first few weeks of work and crafted a new social media strategy for Spire. Using that strategy I propelled into incorporating our commitment to design into our marketing platforms and launched our profiles on multiple social media sites where we had never before had a presence.
Question: What makes working for your company unique?
Answer: One of the most rewarding and unique qualities of working for Spire is our commitment to design and quality. Although I may be the only staff member with an architectural background, there is a design ideology in place in the Spire office. There is integrity to everything that we do at my host company, from the relationships we have with the architects and designers that we work with, all the way down to the last wire that is installed on a job site.
I think the greatest example of our commitment to design is our new showroom at our Troy office. One of our core values is to educate our clients and inspire them with the capabilities of the solutions we provide. Our new showroom was designed to be a full experience for all who visit – we have created an environment that shows our audio and video systems in real situations and provides a holistic view of what an integrated life-style can be; for designers, architects, and home owners.
Question: Why do you enjoy working in the Detroit community?
Answer: The Detroit professional community is a fantastic space to work in. The door to entry in the professional community is accepting to all ages and experiences; the connections and network that a new young professional is able to make in the city of Detroit is something you would not experience in any other metropolis. Even though my office is headquartered in Troy, we still have a commitment to the revitalization of Detroit. I believe the involvement of a company in the suburbs combined with an initiative like Challenge Detroit is an empowering catalyst for reconnecting our suburbs and our urban center.
Question: What’s the biggest highlight of working at your company?
Answer: One of the greatest aspects of working for my host company is the range of responsibilities and experiences that I have. I can go from meeting with a committee on the AIA Detroit board, to designing a new marketing piece with my coworker, to laying out a strategic plan for our social media presence, to correcting CAD drawings for an upcoming project proposal.
Working at Spire has allowed me to challenge my competency and build my experience in areas that I would not have the opportunity to experience in a normal work environment. It has provided the chance to blend my design background and design thinking with gaining real world knowledge in business.
