New Year is around the corner, and my monthly recap has reached December.
This month I went to a couple of art galleries and studios in Detroit, among which Russell Industrial Center was beyond my expectation. I went there on an Open House night. Tons of art studios and music studios were open to the public whereas normally they are private spaces for the artists.

Dec. 7 Detroit Urban Craft Fair
There’re always many art and craft fairs going on in Detroit. DUCF (Detroit Urban Craft Fair) is Michigan’s first and largest indie craft fair.

This year the fair took place in the Detroit Masonic Temple, which is the largest Masonic building in the world.

Dec. 7 Noel Night
Noel Night originated in Detroit on December 19, 1973. The 41th Noel Night took place on Dec.7 in Midtown, featuring a widely ranged “Open house” with free admission to many famous museums, galleries, music venues and so on.

International Institute of Detroit prepared a variety of performances with different cultural backgrounds.

On December 13 we did the final presentation of Challenge Detroit’s second Challenge in partnership with Mode Shift.
December 17, 2013 1st Annual STEM Gala
STEM is an educational organization dedicated to promote the learning of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) in K-12 system throughout the United States. The founder, Andrew B. Raupp‘s initiative first started in Southwest Detroit and has benefited many schools, districts and organizations in Michigan with their holistic STEM learning pathways. On Dec.17, STEM threw a launch party to announce the opening of its new educational incubator near Midtown Detroit.

Moving to Detroit and participating in Challenge Detroit has been my best decision in 2013 so far. I’m very excited about my 2014 in Detroit!
