After reading this blog you might think that the day I describe below is impossible, but I tell you that it is not! I experienced this Saturday not long ago and it was an amazing day of experiencing just a few of the gems of Detroit.
An Example of a Saturday in Detroit:
10:00 AM – Brunch at Detroit One Coney Island
- Order the corned beef hash, it’s homemade and amazing
11:30 AM – Visit the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA)…for FREE
- Portrait of Postman Roulin; Vincent Willem van Gough
- The Thinker; Auguste Rodin
- Fruit, Carafe and Glass; Pablo Picasso
12:15 PM – See the Fabergé exhibit while you’re at the DIA
- Gaze at Imperial Russian golden eggs
- Ponder on what it would be like to have the world’s most beautiful umbrella handle
- Learn that Nicholas II actually disliked Peter the Great
1:45 PM – Use my membership pass to explore Greenfield Village at the Henry Ford Museum
- See the engine used by Thomas Edison to light a New York block for the first time
- Ride in a real Model T
- Tour Harvey Firestone’s actual childhood farm right there in the village; it literally is the farm from Ohio with the correct seeds and animals back-bred from 1882!
6:30 PM – Head to Corktown for drinks and dinner at Slows BBQ
- I’m not sure I can adequately describe this place, you’ll just have to go
- If you’re a vegetarian, don’t go here, go to Seva instead!
