826Michigan

This past month Challenge Detroit changed things up a bit with the set up of the challenge. Instead of all the fellows working on one non-profit as we have done before, Challenge Detroit partnered with five non-profits and the fellows were split into five different groups to work with each non-profit. I was fortunate enough to be chosen to work with 826Michigan. 826Michigan is an amazing organization that helps children from ages 6-18 with creative writing skills. What makes 826Michigan so unique is the set up of their Robot Supply and Repair store. In Ann Arbor, near the University of Michigan’s central campus, 826Michigan runs a Robot Supply and Repair store that sells various robot themed items. The robot store, which helps generate some money to pay for rent and utilities, is just the first part of the store. Hidden behind a curtain at the back of the robot store is a large area where students are able to learn great writing skills in an extremely fun and relaxing environment. The staff at 826Michigan is exciting to be around and passionate about what they do.

So what does a robot-tutoring store have to do with Detroit? I am very excited to say that 826Michigan is planning on opening a branch in Detroit. Our task was to help provide them with material, information, and advice to help them with this great endeavor.  I am excited to see 826Michigan use some of our deliverables to make their Detroit location a reality.

I would like to continue to work with 826Michigan in the future. I believe they provide an excellent service to students and I am excited to see them make a difference for the students of Detroit.

Hospice of Michigan’s Staff Spotlight Campaign

My fellow fellow at Hospice of Michigan (Kirsten Bondalapati) and I have began creating videos spotlighting some of the amazing members of the  Hospice of Michigan team. We have made videos spotlighting an amazing social worker and an amazing physician at Hospice of Michigan so far. We hope to spotlight volunteers, nurses, and other important members of the team in the coming months.
