After sharing with friends that post Paczki Run my mom and I shopped Hamtramck, their reactions mainly included laughing and ‘where is there to shop in Hamtramck?!’. So, I give you A Saturday in Hamtramck Part 2: Shopping with Mumma on Joseph Campau. Below, are a few stops on our post run experience!

  1. New Palace Bakery: Our first stop after the race, our main purchase was additional Paczki. Beyond Paczki, New Palace also has an excellent assortment of baked goods and cookies. It’s definitely a bakery to stop at for more than Fat Tuesday.
  2. Polish Art Center: If you’ve read my previous posts, this is not the first time I’ve mentioned the Polish Art Center. In the past, I’ve mainly bough Polish Pottery. This time was no different-my mother treated me to a heart plate for Valentine’s Day and a small dish to keep bedside and store earrings and rings in when I’m too lazy to get out of bed. However, in addition to Polish pottery, my mom introduced me to another Polish gem: Polish posters. Hidden in the corner of the Polish Art Center are a wide array of postcards featuring Polish posters for films, music, events, advertisements, and more. I’ve already framed two to hang in my room and have one more car advertisement to find the perfect spot for. Check out more Polish Posters here.
  3. Srodeks: Walk inside Srodek’s and immediately you smell sauerkraut and kielbasa. Srodek’s is the place to go for your sauerkraut, kielbasa, and pierogi to take home and enjoy for dinner.
  4. Polish Market: At the corner of Belmont and Joseph Campau sits the Polish Market. Here is my mother’s favorite spot to pick up a variety of Polish potato chips and sticks of ultimate grease my dad enjoys and cute, little Polish candies visitors are always confused by at my apartment. Pro tip: the little candies work great to stifle a cough when you don’t have cough drops on hand.
  5. Bon Bon Bon: After visiting all my mother’s favorite stops, it was time for me to show her something new in Hamtramck: Bon Bon Bon. Nestled on Evaline, just off Joseph Campau, Bon Bon Bon’s inviting store-front/factory proudly touts their Hamtramck home and is known for their wide variety of tasty chocolates. While this time we merely took in the smells of Bon Bon Bon, we’ll definitely be returning to taste these delicacies!

These are just a few of Hamtramck’s many, many fun stores located in the small radius of their city. Many others, like Lo & Behold Records & Books, Stan’s Grocery, Tekla Vintage, Café 1923 for coffee, and Revolver for pop-up dinners, piqued our interest and we’ll be returning to shop Hamtramck again!
