For our third challenge of the 2021-2022 program year, we were excited to partner with Brilliant Detroit, a nonprofit dedicated to building kid success families and neighborhoods where families with children 0-8 have what they need to be school ready, healthy and stable. Eight teams of Fellows worked collaboratively with Brilliant Detroit staff and community stakeholders to deliver this project – learn more from the perspective of each team!

Our Challenge Project #3 partners are the Brilliant Detroit team, and alongside their aid, our teams were able to lay the groundwork for their open-source community dashboard!

As the Dashboard Sustainability team, our core focus was the upkeep and maintenance of the dashboard. However, much of our information was reliant on other group’s ideas and ideas for implementation of the dashboard. This third project was truly a culmination of our previous work on Challenge Projects #1 and #2 as it really pulled on all the skills we learned in previous projects. Our group’s design thinking methods were fine-tuned by our previous group experiences. Challenge Project #3 was unique in the sense that it and a testament to our ability to cross-collaboratively work together.

Our final deliverables included a high-level sustainment plan overview, which we streamlined to a brief, digestible, one-pager. Followed by the full Dashboard Sustainability Manual, which is an 11-page manual that includes a more detailed overview of dashboard onboarding and training, how to communicate internally and externally, as well as how to conduct monthly audits to keep the data consistently monitored and ensure it was correctly updated. As we wrapped up these deliverables, we can’t wait to see the final culmination of the rest of the Fellow teams’ work and how Brilliant Detroit will implement it all.
