Selene Clark is a 2021-2022 Fellow. She was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan and attended Wayne State University where she earned a Bachelor’s in Business Administration. She is currently in school for her MBA.

Workday at DPSCD.

Tell us about your host company and your role in the organization.

My host company was DPSCD and I worked in the HR department. Throughout the year I assisted with general office duties and helped the various HR divisions. I was also responsible for modernizing the DPSCD employee hubsite.

Tell us about a challenge project you’ve worked on; what have you learned from the experience?

For our final challenge project, I worked with Abayomi CDC which is a non-profit community development center located on 8 mile RD. During this project we learned the importance of faith and community.

How do you hope to impact the community as a Fellow?
I hope to use what I have learned to highlight the challenges facing impoverished neighborhoods in Detroit.

Since becoming a Fellow, what new skill/skills have you gained?

I have learned to communicate with different personality types more effectively.

How do you believe your fellowship year will shape your career moving forward?

I believe that my fellowship gave me the skills needed to get my foot in the door for project management positions.

What has been your biggest takeaway from your time as a Fellow?

My biggest takeaway from the fellowship was being able to meet with new people. We come from different backgrounds but are more similar than we realize.

What would you say to someone who is considering applying to be a Fellow?
If you are considering becoming a fellow, I encourage you to take the challenge! You won’t regret it.
