In this week’s Fellow Spotlight, we are checking in with Brittany Stallworth. She fills us in on what she enjoys most about Detroit, her host company, Beaumont Health System, and what she’s looking forward to as a Challenge Detroit Fellow.

Tell us about your neighborhood in the city. What are some of your favorite things about it?
I live in the East Jefferson Corridor near Indian Village. I love living in this neighborhood. It’s extremely diverse. It’s close enough to downtown, but still has a neighborhood feel.

Tell us about your host company and your role with them.
I work at Beaumont Health System with the Medical Group. Everyday is something different. I am surrounded by heavy-hitters in health care administration that are invested in my professional growth. My projects are all extremely different, but I feel supported. The team is awesome and everyone is willing to help.

What have you learned with Challenge Detroit so far?
With Challenge Detroit I have learned that even though Detroit is a huge city, I can play a role in helping the people in the neighborhoods. I have gotten to learn the business side of health care while at my host company along with the nitty gritty of the needs of the neighborhoods in the city with Challenge. It has been a wonderful experience thus far.

What are you most looking forward to in the next year?
Over the next year I am looking forward to bringing health and fitness to the city and my fellow fellows. I’m excited to interact more with the fellows and really make life-long friends.

What kind of impact do you hope to make with your host company? With the city?
I hope to inform my team at my host company about what’s happening in Detroit. Working at a host company in the suburbs, I feel I can have a big impact and be a bridge to the happenings in the city of Detroit. In Detroit, I want to be an influence for my family and other people in the neighborhoods. I want to promote healthy eating and fitness.
