Floor hockey at the YMCA was probably one of the most fun events that I have been apart of in a while. It is really cool how After 5 Detroit puts on these activities for the young Detroit working class. Watching so many young professionals from all of these different companies, come together to #PLAY in Detroit was very fulfilling. I enjoyed playing with them all while learning about what they do at their various places of employment. We all had a great time and also had the ability to network with one another, which gave the tournament a deeper meaning.image2

Having never played floor hockey I think Challenge Detroit as well as myself did a pretty good job but most importantly we had a great time. With a two game eliminations we clearly had no time to mess around. Unfortunately we took our first lost in game 2 which sparked a bit of urgency in the next few games. Challenge Detroit was able to hold on all the way until we got to the championship game, which was a tough, hard fought battle. Down by a few points, Mayo was able to close the gap giving us just one more chance to win the game. Unfortunately time was not on our side. On the last possession with a shot to win the game…we didn’t. Even though we faced a tough lost, it was fun to collaborate with current and alumni fellows working toward a goal other than one on a challenge Friday. We all wanted to win because bringing that trophy back to Challenge Detroit would have been awesome. Thankfully, we have next year.

I think this was a great experience and I wouldn’t change my challenge floor hockey team for anything. With a little more preparation and some team practice I ensure we wont be the story of “so close” again.
