Wooooow! Challenge projects are ligit over! Time has flown by and I honestly don’t think I’ve had a chance to digest the reality that we’ve reached the end. Today I’m gonna share with you 3 great things that have made this experience awesome for me.
- Challenge is like a career buffet. As a fellow you get to learn so much about great work being done all around the city! No doubt you’ll learn about a job or opportunity that sparks your interest. As a fellow I had the pleasure of connecting with Mariners Inn after the COO Carina Jackson spoke on a Challenge panel. That meeting ultimately lead to me becoming a regular tutor for the organization which further lead to the development of my Impact Project. Working with Mariners Inn has been so beneficial for me, I have LOVED making meaningful connections with the men there.
- You learn what belonging to a space & community means (this applies more-so if you’re new to the city). In Detroit there is a song being sung almost everywhere you go. It’s the overarching question, “do you belong here?”. No one (well most folks) would say that right to your face, but we’re all thinking it. What’s you business here, what are your intentions? Don’t come here thinking you have something to give Detroit… be reading to learn.
- f.r.i.e.n.d.s, they’ll be there for you. Sorry, I just got done watching that show. But it’s true! You’re gonna meet some amazing people through this fellowship! I certainly have! There’s something special about starting a new adventure and making new friends to share it with. Even though I’ve lived in Detroit for a few years now, I’ve experienced the city in a whole new way by exploring with new people. Get out and do as much as possible, especially while it’s warm!
Impact Project is complete!
So excited to say that my impact project is complete! I LOVED it so much and definitely teared up at the end. I spoke in detail about my project in the last blog so check that out if your interested.
