Detroit Impact is a youth center established to work with youth in our community to teach, mentor, guide, motivate and encourage.
Youth Programming:
-Computer Learning Center
-Media Arts (film and videography class for youth ages 12-17)
-Remote Control Car Circuit: building and racing model cars for youth ages 6-12)
-Creative Writing: poetry writing and slams, youth written newsletter, research, and readings from various African American writers
-Academic Support: tutoring for all ages
-Money Matters for Youth: money management activities for young adults
2.) Maggie Lee’s Community Center
Maggie Lee’s is a facility in Detroit’s Fitzgerald neighborhood that offers programs that are carefully designed to improve the life style patterns of the surrounding community.
Activities and Volunteer Opportunities for Youth:
-Activity space available for rental
-Latch Key
-Youth self-defense classes
-Starting this spring/early summer, they’ll need help with maintaining their new community garden!
3.) D.A.N.C.E Inc. Detroit
D.A.N.C.E: Developing And Nurturing Community Empowerment, reaches organization over one hundred youth each year. D.A.N.C.E. aims to provide a family-like atmosphere, where at risk youth can receive high quality training, in the arts and athletics, for a very reasonable, low cost.
Classes Offered:
-Dance classes
-Music classes
-Competitive cheer,
-Baton twirling classes
-Numerous volunteer opportunities for youth involved in their programs
4.) Young Detroit Builders
YouthBuild Detroit is a full-time, 10-month educational and training program. Applicants must successfully complete a three-week orientation, known as “Mental Toughness,” before they can be officially enrolled in the program. A small stipend is paid to students who are accepted into the program.
*Participants must be between 18 and 24, low-income, resident of Detroit and without a high school diploma or GED.
Youth Programming Pillars:
1.) Educational Advancement –GED and post-secondary education prep classes
2.) Construction Education and Training –On site training to earn certifications by the National Center for Construction Education and Research and the National Homebuilders Institute
3.) Leadership and Community Service –32 hours of community service that includes public speaking, and program governance.
4.) Counseling and Support Services –Life skills development, support groups, a living allowance, and referral for other physical and mental health needs

Kick-Agency provides supportive services for Detroit’s LGBT youth

6. ) Heritage Works
Heritage Works promotes youth and community development through cultural arts and traditions. Designed to promote understanding and skill development, our programs use cultural discovery and arts training to encourage personal and artistic excellence.

7.) Boys Hope and Girls Hope
Boys Hope and Girls Hope offer programming to help academically capable and motivated children-in-need to meet their full potential and become men and women for others by providing value-centered, family-like homes, opportunities and education through college.

8.) Arts and Scraps
Arts & Scraps uses recycled industrial scraps to help people of all ages and abilities think, create and learn

-Complete arts and crafts kits that can be purchased and used at community events
-Fieldtrips to the arts and scraps warehouse for wholesale recycled art supplies
-Scrap Mobile- can be rented out for events
-Volunteer opportunities for young adults
