She is a native Detroiter and has a bachelor&#8217;s in psychology from Michigan State University and a masters in Women and Gender Studies from Eastern Michigan University.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Tell us about your host company and your role in the organization.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<div id=\"attachment_25543\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-25543\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-25543\" src=\"https:\/\/www.challengedetroit.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Alyssa-and-SCP-Team-1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-25543\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Alyssa\u2019s co-workers from Strategic Community Partners showing support during Challenge #2 presentation.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/strategiccommunitypartners.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Strategic Community Partners (SCP)<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0 is a black-owned and Detroiter-owned capacity building firm headquartered in Detroit, MI. SCP just recently opened the SCP Community Center in November. It\u2019s located on West McNichols between Wyoming and Meyers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At SCP, my role is as the Community and Educational Initiatives Fellow. In this role I do a hodgepodge of things, but my work mostly falls into the buckets of community engagement, programing and facilitation, and strategic planning.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Tell us about the challenge project you\u2019re currently working on; what are you learning from the experience?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At Challenge we just wrapped up our project with Sinai-Grace Guild\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Community Development Corporation. During this partnership, as a cohort we were tasked with providing recommendations to improve life outcomes for older adults in Northwest Detroit. This project enlightened me to the challenges that older adults face that we as a society tend to overlook.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Since becoming a Fellow, what have you learned?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<div id=\"attachment_25542\" style=\"width: 244px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-25542\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-25542\" src=\"https:\/\/www.challengedetroit.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Fitzgerald-Mural-234x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"234\" height=\"300\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-25542\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Alyssa visiting the Fitzgerald Mural located in the Fitzgerald Neighborhood on Detirot\u2019s West Side.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since becoming a fellow I\u2019ve really stepped into being a leader. I\u2019ve been more confident in stepping up, supporting others, and keeping my eye on the prize. Challenge Detroit provided a safe space for me to try on the leadership role and really learn about my leadership style, strengths and room for growth.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>What are you most looking forward to as a Fellow this year?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019m looking forward to visiting new places in Detroit! As a native of Detroit, I\u2019ve slacked on keeping up with the changes happening in the city and the PLETHORA of\u00a0 locally owned restaurants, bars, stores, and coffee shops. Since Challenge, I\u2019ve been able to learn about cool spots, new and old, that I\u2019m excited to explore.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>If someone reading your interview is considering in applying to be a Fellow, why would you encourage them to apply?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you are considering applying &#8211; APPLY!
