Tell us about living in Detroit. What neighborhood do you live in and what things\u00a0make it unique and exciting?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"IMG_1596\"I live in the Historic West Village neighborhood, which is actually located on\u00a0the east side of Detroit. The West Village is unique because of its old, well\u00a0maintained mansions. It\u2019s also just a short walk from Belle Isle, what could\u00a0be better? I know, my neighborhood is redeveloping a section on Kercheval\u00a0and introducing several new businesses into the area. Wow!<\/p>\n

What have you learned from Challenge Detroit so far?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I have learned that Detroit is a very complicated place! If you\u2019re reading this blog, then\u00a0you\u2019ve been exposed to the city a little bit and you know that there are some great things\u00a0going on here. Detroit is a haven for artists, a mecca for entrepreneurs, and a place that\u00a0natives can be proud of, but that is not to say that it isn\u2019t without its problems. And those\u00a0problems sometimes seem insurmountable, but the best way to fix them is to engage in your\u00a0community and, of course, vote!<\/p>\n

\"IMG_1453\"Tell us about your host company and your role in the organization.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I work at a company called Marketing Associates located right in the center\u00a0of the city in Campus Martius. I am in the creative department and have had\u00a0some excellent opportunities to develop my professional skillset. My favorite\u00a0project that I\u2019ve been working on has been making videos for the Lincoln\u00a0Motor Company. From Belle Isle to the New York Auto Show, this job has\u00a0gotten me out of the office and helped me hone my college major, film! So\u00a0far, MA has been a blast.<\/p>\n

What kind of impact do you hope to have with your host company and within the\u00a0city?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I hope to continue making videos for Lincoln and for MA. My long term goal\u00a0is for video to become a more prominent offering at my company for clients.\u00a0In the city I hope to continue to follow in the footsteps of people who have\u00a0started the work needed to be done in this city, and help them in those\u00a0efforts.<\/p>\n

What organizations have you enjoyed working with in Detroit and why?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I really enjoyed the Challenge service day with Clark Park. It was great\u00a0getting into one of the neighborhoods, and I really felt like we were being\u00a0helpful. The after-party at Nancy Whiskey didn\u2019t hurt either!<\/p>\n
