{"id":126,"date":"2014-07-31T01:54:33","date_gmt":"2014-07-31T01:54:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/challengedetroit.org\/blog\/corissaleveille\/?p=126"},"modified":"2014-07-31T01:54:33","modified_gmt":"2014-07-31T01:54:33","slug":"architecture-for-humanity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.challengedetroit.org\/blog\/architecture-for-humanity\/","title":{"rendered":"Architecture for Humanity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As a final challenge, all of the Fellows were tasked with creating their own <strong>\u201cJuly Impact Project\u201d<\/strong> where they were able to select a nonprofit, create a scope of work and spend the Friday\u2019s in July helping them to solve their own Challenges.<\/p>\n<p>This past month, I have had the amazing opportunity to work with the local <a href=\"\/\/detroit.architectureforhumanity.org\/\">Detroit Chapter<\/a>\u00a0of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architectureforhumanity.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Architecture for Humanit<\/a>y.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-129\" src=\"http:\/\/challengedetroit.org\/corissaleveille\/files\/2014\/07\/110302_afh_logo_chapter_detroit_mark-01-1024x467.png\" alt=\"110302_afh_logo_chapter_detroit_mark-01\" width=\"584\" height=\"266\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As a small volunteer based chapter that regrouped itself in Spring of 2013, Architecture for Humanity &#8211; Detroit [AfH-D] already has quite a bit of success stories. In just over a year, they have completed 2 Parking spot reclamation projects,\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/archforhumanitydetroit\/photos\/a.207438626096776.1073741835.160520724121900\/292711127569525\/?type=3&amp;theater\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jefferson: PIT STOP at the Collective\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/detroit.architectureforhumanity.org\/projects\/parking_day_detroit_2013_0]\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PARK(ing) Day<\/a>,<\/em>\u00a0 and 1 clean up project,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/detroit.architectureforhumanity.org\/projects\/winship_comm-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Winship Community Clean up<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-127\" src=\"http:\/\/challengedetroit.org\/corissaleveille\/files\/2014\/07\/winship-image.jpg\" alt=\"winship image\" width=\"586\" height=\"438\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This Summer, Architecture for Humanity &#8211; Detroit\u00a0is launching a new <a href=\"http:\/\/detroit.architectureforhumanity.org\/project\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Home Improvement Assistance Program<\/a>\u00a0(HIAP). \u00a0This program is a collaboration between the\u00a0Detroit Chapter and St. Dominic&#8217;s Outreach Center to help elderly residents gain independence by giving them the ability to age in place through design build interventions.<\/p>\n<p>What that means is that over\u00a0the 6 weeks, we will be working with\u00a04 residents and their local community to complete home improvement projects that they could not afford without the assistance of Architecture for Humanity &#8211; Detroit. \u00a0The following dates and projects to be completed are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Aug 3 <\/strong>\u2013<a href=\"http:\/\/detroit.architectureforhumanity.org\/projects\/hiap_home_improvement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Build Handrail<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Aug 9\/10\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013<a href=\"http:\/\/detroit.architectureforhumanity.org\/projects\/hiap_home_improvemen_\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Clean up and repaint Porch<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Aug 16 <\/strong>&#8211;\u00a0 Rebuild Entry Steps<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sept 6\/7\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013<a href=\"http:\/\/detroit.architectureforhumanity.org\/projects\/virginia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Build ADA ramp<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-128 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/challengedetroit.org\/corissaleveille\/files\/2014\/07\/IMG_3102-1024x764.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3102\" width=\"584\" height=\"435\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In addition to helping with HIAP, I was able to create a series of recommended strategies for Growth, Marketing and most importantly Funding.\u00a0On August 1st, the Detroit Chapter kicked off a campaign to raise <strong>$8,000<\/strong> for the upcoming improvement projects.<\/p>\n<p>If you are interested in participating or donating towards any of the upcoming clean up projects,<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>contact\u00a0<a style=\"color: #bf7100\" href=\"mailto:detroit@architectureforhumanity.org\">detroit@architectureforhumanity.org<\/a>\u00a0or<\/li>\n<li>visit <a href=\"\/blog\/www.detroit.architectureforhumanity.org\">www.detroit.architectureforhumanity.org<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Remember that all donations are tax-deductible and help to rebuild local Detroit communities.<\/p>\n<pre><\/pre>\n<pre><a href=\"http:\/\/chapters.architectureforhumanity.org\/user\/register?destination=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Register<\/a>\u00a0to become a member of AFH - Detroit<\/pre>\n<pre><\/pre>\n<pre>Follow AFH - Detroit\u00a0on<a href=\"\/\/www.facebook.com\/archforhumanitydetroit\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0Facebook<\/a><\/pre>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As a final challenge, all of the Fellows were tasked with creating their own \u201cJuly Impact Project\u201d where they were able to select a nonprofit, create a scope of work and spend the Friday\u2019s in July helping them to solve their own Challenges.
