I want to start off by saying that this past year has been incredible. Moving to Detroit, starting a new job in public accounting, and most of all being able to dedicate 20% of my working time towards professional development, community engagement, and boots-on-the—ground impact through my fellowship with Challenge Detroit.
But, now it is time to say goodbye to Challenge Fridays, 4 day work weeks with PwC, and dedicated time to make an impact in the community – which has me a little worried. Up until this point in my life I haven’t had a chance to have a significant impact on communities in which I have lived, but now that I had the chance, I want to continue my service to a community that I love.
With that concern in mind, I want to take this time to start thinking about a plan of where I can make a difference for Detroit, even after being involved in Challenge Detroit. First, now that we have had the chance to work with 6 different organizations, I am beginning to understand where non-profits operate in the community, and have a good basis for ones that may be a good fit for me to make a continuing impact on a go forward basis. The next step is to identify consistent time on a weekly basis that I will be able to dedicate my time to an organization.
Finally, moving forward and executing on this plan.
While I am saying goodbye to Challenge Detroit, I will not say goodbye to my fellow fellows or having a impact on the Detroit community.
